CSU Pre-Doctoral Sally Casanova Program
  • The program was created by the UC's and CSU's in 1989 to diversify academia through providing financial and professional support for students who are interested in pursuing doctoral education. About 75 CSU students (undergraduate and graduate) are admitted each year. (74 this year)
  • Places special emphasis on increasing more CSU students to attain a PhD program at a UC campus
  • Work closely with a CSU faculty mentor to create and execute a plan that leads to applying to a PhD program
  • In order to be eligible you must:
    • be a student at any of the 23 CSU campuses (except international students)
    • be an incoming junior, senior, or master level standing
    • be interested in obtaining a research oriented graduate degree (PhD)
    • have a faculty at your home campus that agreed to be your mentor
Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP)
  • Goal of program: increase the number of faculty with the qualifications, motivation, and skills needed to teach the diverse students of the CSU
  • Prepares promising doctoral students for CSU faculty positions by providing financial support, mentorship by CSU faculty, and professional development and grant resources
  • Who Can Apply?
    • New or continuing full-time doctoral students currently enrolled in accredited U.S. programs
    • Undergraduate and master’s level students in the application process to accredited doctoral programs in the U.S.
    • Individuals who have a strong desire to teach at the CSU level once receiving their doctorate!
  • Why Should I Apply?
    • Subsidized educational loan of up to $30,000 with potential for loan cancellation
    • Loan cancellation: if employed in an instructional program at a CSU following completion of a doctoral program
