Dr. Alejandro Morales - Advisor
Dr. Alejandro Morales is an associate professor of Psychology. He conducts qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods studies in understanding the psycho-social-cultural mechanisms of adjustment in Latino immigrant families with children who serve as translators and interpreters (i.e., language brokers). His research also focuses on identifying the processes that facilitate the psychological wellbeing of Latino gay men. He teaches courses on abnormal psychology, basic counseling skills, intimate relationships, human sexuality, and couple's therapy. He received his PhD and MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his BA in Psychology from the California State University, Dominguez Hills.
When not teaching, meeting with students to talk about research and graduate school, Dr. Morales enjoys watching documentaries. He is a fan of Harry Potter, butterflies, and any fantasy creature. Jessy Navarro - President
Year: 4th year Psychology major with Minor in Spanish

Psychology Interests: Counseling/Clinicial Psychology. Also interested in Ethnic-Racial Identity and its relationship to mental health outcomes, such as body image, eating disorders, etc.
Hobbies: Sleeping, Comics, video games, movies
Experience: Research assistant for Dr. Morales, Participated in the Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) at the University of Michigan, Psy and Soc Peer Mentor, McNair Scholar, Presented at conferences such as WPA. I want to get a PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. I want to be a professor, researcher and have a private practice.
Beverly Cotter - Vice-President

Hobbies: Running, collecting coffee mugs, trying new coffee shops, traveling, and trying new food!
Experience: Right now, I'm still figuring things out, but I plan on applying to Cognitive Psychology Ph.D programs in the Fall to hopefully continue research in the field of language and its cognitive processes. Even though I have been heavily focusing and do really love Cognitive Psychology & Psycholinguistics, I’m also really passionate about social justice issues, politics, and looking into the patterns of my generation. On campus, I'm currently a research assistant for the Asian American Transnational Research Initiative (AATRI)'s iGen project, a McNair Scholar (Cohort 20) working on my independent study using EEG to study the cognitive components of heritage speakers of Spanish, one of the leads for Peer Mentors (Cohort 13), and a teacher's assistant/grader for the Psychology department. I used to be a Psychology & Sociology Peer Mentor for Cohort 12 and a research assistant for former assistant professor, Dr. Rossi's heritage speakers EEG lab for two years. I'm always hanging around somewhere in or around Building 5, so if you see me in the hallway, feel free to say hi!
Catherine Smith - Treasurer

Hobbies: I like to go hiking (needs to have a waterfall ) I like to play tennis and go to new places.
Experience: I have conducted research with Dr. Langford last year. This year I am doing research with Dr. Davila. I work as an instructional aid for special education at Richman Elementary in Fullerton (my third year). I want to transfer to graduate school hopefully Fall of 2019.

Hobbies: I love to dance, and i'm a big fashion and makeup enthusiast! Disneyland is basically my second home and i'm a foodie as well!
Experience: I am currently in the McNair Preparatory Program. I have not conducted any research yet, but I am planning to do research next semester. My goal after undergrad is to get my master's degree, possibly my PhD too... and work as an Industrial/Organizational Psychologist.
