Hello everyone and happy week 5! If you have any midterms this week we wish you the best of luck!

This week we went over some tips for how to become a better presenter whether it be for research presentations or classroom presentations. When it comes to presenting, confidence is always key but there are other factors that are important when it comes to presentations such as where you are standing, and the content you are presenting. Below we have some slides filled with all our tips and tricks for presenting and we hope y'all find this useful!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • ​Pizza Fundraiser
    • Date: Tuesday, March 3rd (tentative date)
    • we would be cancelling meeting that day so members can come out and help sell pizza!
  • Painting the CPP Letters
    • Date: Saturday, March 14th 
    • Time: 11AM-3PM
  • 2020-2021 E-Board Elections
    • Date: Tuesday, April 14th
    • More info will be given closer to the date!
  • Apply for International Membership!
    • International membership is different from membership in the Psi Chi Cal Poly Pomona chapter. If you become an international member you would be joining the International Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) which gives you access to many benefits such as scholarship opportunities, access to exclusive info, and ability to purchase graduation regalia.

S20 Week 4 General Meeting

Hello everyone and happy week 4! Hopefully everyone has had a great first few weeks of the semester. At this week's meeting we relaxed and played a game of Kahoot regarding a variety of trivia about psychology and more. The first place winner even won a Panda Express gift card! We hope to see you at next week's meeting!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • The hiking social has been moved to Sunday, February 16 at the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park Trail. We will be meeting at 9:30 AM, and this social is also kid-friendly so feel free to bring others!

BRONCO BRAIN DAY & BRAIN DAY JR.
  • Brain Day Jr.: March 17, 2020 (9am-2pm)
  • Bronco Brain Day: March 24, 2020 (10am-3pm)
  • You may choose to volunteer for both days or just one
  • Volunteer on DAY OF
    • Assist on activities
    • Work with children from the Pomona Unified School District
    • Learn about brain and mental health from peers
    • Participate in community service
  • Last year, we were able to arrange with professors for extra credit for the volunteers
  • Member points for Psi Chi

  • Deadline to Register: March 31st

​​CSU Pre-Doctoral Sally Casanova Program​
  • The program was created by the UC's and CSU's in 1989 to diversify academia through providing financial and professional support for students who are interested in pursuing doctoral education. About 75 CSU students (undergraduate and graduate) are admitted each year. (74 this year)
  • Places special emphasis on increasing more CSU students to attain a PhD program at a UC campus
  • Work closely with a CSU faculty mentor to create and execute a plan that leads to applying to a PhD program
  • In order to be eligible you must:
    • be a student at any of the 23 CSU campuses (except international students)
    • be an incoming junior, senior, or master level standing
    • be interested in obtaining a research oriented graduate degree (PhD)
    • have a faculty at your home campus that agreed to be your mentor
Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP)
  • Goal of program: increase the number of faculty with the qualifications, motivation, and skills needed to teach the diverse students of the CSU
  • ​Prepares promising doctoral students for CSU faculty positions by providing financial support, mentorship by CSU faculty, and professional development and grant resources
  • Who Can Apply?
    • New or continuing full-time doctoral students currently enrolled in accredited U.S. programs
    • Undergraduate and master’s level students in the application process to accredited doctoral programs in the U.S.
    • Individuals who have a strong desire to teach at the CSU level once receiving their doctorate!
  • Why Should I Apply?
    • Subsidized educational loan of up to $30,000 with potential for loan cancellation
    • Loan cancellation: if employed in an instructional program at a CSU following completion of a doctoral program
    • Money for conference travel, research supplies, and more!
    • Hands on mentorship through your graduate studies by a CSU faculty member (doesn’t have to be CPP)
