s1, Week 2: Getting to Know E-board

9/7/2020

Prior to this week's meeting we administered a survey amongst members. The intention behind the survey was two fold; primarily we wanted a general understanding of membership composition in order to effectively cater to member's needs. Secondly, we hoped to encourage active engagement with members as a means of facilitating a warm and inclusive environment. After a brief run through of the survey results, we continued by answering some frequently asked club related questions, ending the informational portion of the meeting with an announcement on McNair prep recruitment. This week's meeting concluded with a game of roundtable. An executive board member kicked things off stating their name and class status, following up with a fun fact. Members were expected to follow suit; responding with facts of their own related to the previous fact in cyclical fashion, until the meeting's end. Overall, today's meeting was a fun way to get to know one another, a lighthearted digression before the semester transitioned into full swing.

s1, Week 1: What is Psi Chi?

9/7/2020

With the start of the fall semester comes new opportunities and marks the end of summer. The abrupt transition to online learning has no doubt been an arduous experience for all. Such an unprecedented turn of events coupled with the civil state of affairs has left many in a state of disarray. We're thankful for our peers, faculty, and administration as a whole for bearing with us and helping to make this transition as smooth as possible. Member turn out was a general concern lingering in our periphery, though this was swiftly quelled at the meeting's start. We were overjoyed at the chance to be able to welcome so many new members to the Psi Chi community, and to see returning members as well. Lead by president Kelly Nguyen and vice president Daniela Navarro, we introduced Psi Chi as an organization elucidating our mission statement and purpose. During the meeting, we answered questions from our members, briefly touched on WPA, membership benefits, research opportunities and ended with an executive board introduction. As we prepare for events to come, it's heartwarming to see so many eager academics  taking the initiative to become involved despite the circumstances, and for that; we cannot thank them enough.
