Last General Meeting of Fall Quarter!

Happy Week 10 Psi Chi!

We can't believe this quarter is already coming to an end, but we are extremely thankful to have such an amazing cast of members this year and the consistent involvement from all of you! We are off to a great start so far and we hope the momentum continues throughout the rest of the year!

For our last meeting we provided In-N-Out for our members as one of the many benefits of being a member in this club. Members took the time to socialize and take a break as we all prepare to study for finals next week!

We also shared important information about WPA. Our conference chair, Anna, created a document to present a brief breakdown of the costs for the entire trip. Please take into account that some of the costs listed in the document are labeled as estimates. Psi Chi is still currently working on our budget and funds to the best of our ability so we can provide to the members who wish to attend WPA. We will update you all once we get this figured out. The document is provided below as a pdf.

Happy Week 9 Psi Chi!

We are thrilled to congratulate Julia Lozano as our new community service chair! Since the beginning of the year she has been extremely involved and active within our club. She presented some great ideas she will be implementing once her term begins in Winter Quarter 2018. Some of her ideas involve work with DACA and Salvation Army. We would like to thank our members for voting and we look forward to working with Julia on our team this year! :)

Following elections, we played a game of Kahoot to prepare for finals. Shout out to our colleague Zoran for creating the questions for the game and hosting it! It was a great opportunity for our members to refresh their minds and learn general psychology material. We hope this helped and we wish you the best of luck on your exams!

For week 10, we will be providing In-N-Out at our general meeting ONLY for members who have paid their dues! If you have not paid your dues yet, you will have until Sunday, November 26th, to submit your dues. Please venmo @PsychedAriana by this deadline in order to get a meal at our meeting next Tuesday. Payments passed this deadline will not receive a meal due to our convenience of gaining a headcount beforehand to preorder the amount of meals we will provide for our members. If you have any questions please let us know!

Psi Chi Meeting 11/14/17

Happy Week 8 Psi Chi! We would like to thank those who were in attendance at our first social event last Thursday! It was a great opportunity for our members to bond closer and relieve some stress away from school. We have more socials planned in the future so keep your calendars open!

In our meeting today we discussed graduate school preparation, the WPA abstract deadline, and an opportunity to run for an open position on our executive board.

Unfortunately, our community service chair, Caitlyn, will be stepping down from her position for personal reasons. She has done an excellent job with hosting philanthropy events and being involved within our club thus far. For those interested to take on this position, please prepare a short speech by our next meeting, 11/21/17, on why you would like to fulfill this position. You can also mention any unique qualities or ideas you may think will be beneficial to Psi Chi. Afterwards, we will have a majority vote with all of our members to decide who will be our next community service chair. Please contact us if you have any questions about the position.

For those who will be presenting at WPA, the abstract is due tomorrow, Wednesday 11/15/17, at 11:59PM!!!!!!! Here is the direct link to submit your abstract: PROPOSAL SUBMISSION FOR WPA

You will not be able to present if you do not meet this deadline so please make sure to get your abstracts turned in!

We were very fortunate to have an admission officer, Christy Ranells, discuss the various graduate programs offered at the University of La Verne. Students interested in Clinical Psychology and wish to pursue a Psy. D or a Masters degree should find this information quite useful. The specific types of programs offered are Marriage and Family Therapy, Educational Counseling, and School Psychology. Psi Chi Trip to WPA 2018

Happy Week 7 Psi Chi! We've been extremely impressed by the consistent participation from you all so far! We understand that the final few weeks of the quarter can be a busy time for all of us, but let's keep the ball rolling and finish strong!

In this meeting we had a special guest speaker, Lyena Chan, present an excellent opportunity for students interested in volunteer work. The work is focused on urban missions dealing with restorative justice to provide food for local low income/homeless communities. The food is based from a garden created by Cal Poly Pomona students and Lyena is searching for a few more hands to assist in maintaining the garden and serve the food on Sunday nights from 3-6pm. If you are interested in attending WPA, please let us know! We are still collecting a head count of how many potential students will attend the event. We are booking hotel rooms and planning to book a source of transportation based on how many students commit to attend and how they plan to get there. Fortunately our conference chair, Anna, discussed a breakdown of costs to give us an idea of how much the trip may cost. Psi Chi WPA Trip 2018

We are also having a social event this Thursday, 11/9/17, at 6pm!!!!!! The social will take place at Snow Creek Park, which is located right by campus. The address to the park is 20633 Snow Creek Dr. Walnut, CA 91789. We are planning to play softball so we encourage you to bring any equipment that you may have or feel free to bring your own source of activity if you would like! A huge shoutout to our event coordinator, Tonie, for providing a catered dinner from Dr. Grubbs serving blackened tofu, blackened chicken, white rice, penne pasta and house made sauces! If you plan on eating, it will cost $10 so please venmo @PsychedAriana and come with an empty stomach! We hope this social event can provide an opportunity to get to know each other a bit more and build a closer bond within the club! :)
