Welcome to a new week everyone! It's already Week 5 and it's midterm season. Hope everyone is studying hard!
Well for this week's general meeting we had special guest, Dr. Michael Giang come in to guest speak for Psi Chi. To recap what he said, he first started off explaining a little about himself and where he was from. Dr. Giang was born in Vietnam and currently lives in the Rosemead/Monterey Park area. As for his academics, he attended Mount Sac and then transferred to UCLA. He also studied experimental methods at CSUN and got his masters there. Then he became a professor at Mount St. Mary’s College. Currently, he is teaching here at Cal Poly Pomona, and he’s actually searching for research assistants. Hello everyone!
For this week's general meeting we had ELECTIONS! We are so happy to finally have these open Executive Board positions filled up. Candidates that wanted to run for the positions had to give a one to two minute speech about why they wanted to run for that particular position. First up, we had Conference Chair. Our candidates, Sarah Moore, Raelene Somjit, Jasmine Leigh, and Deniz Kivrak gave their amazing speeches, and they were able to start elections off on a great note! Next position was C.L.A.S.S. Representative. Candidates Isabella, Genesis, and Martha were able to explain why they should be elected, and what they were able to contribute as a C.L.A.S.S. Representative. Those running for Social chair were up next, and candidates Jasmine, Isabelle, and Cecilia, gave their ideas about what their plans were if they were to be elected! Last but not least, for our Community Service Chair position, Michael ended the meeting with an enthusiastic speech about why he was the best fit for the position. Elections this year was definitely a tough one! But please make sure to attend next Tuesday's meeting to see who your new 2018-2019 Executive Board members are. Since we did have some time left at the end, Catherine gave a quick presentation about Psi Chi's International Membership. The link to the presentation is attached below if you would like to view it again. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/11Zdi_CKY1444cdEF5xYJhZUcqfT7i-BLy4Ig9THEeYw/edit Other than that, Have a wonderful rest of week! See you all next Tuesday! Hi everyone! Hope everyone is having a great week so far and that you're finally getting the hang of things. For this week's general meeting we did a really fun activity and created Rorschach shirts. We were so happy that so many of you came out to create your own t-shirts. Everyone had such cool and unique designs, it was really fun to see how creative our members are. We hope that through this activity some of you were able to get to know each other a little more and get closer with one another! There will be many more activities in the future, so don't feel too bad if you missed out on this one. I'll post some photos below so you can see what some of our members created! We do have elections coming up next week, so to those who want to run for positions, please prepare a 1-2 minute speech about why you want to run for that particular position. To our other members, we highly recommend you to come out and cast your vote! We need your votes! Other than that, have a lovely rest of the week everyone! Hello everyone!
Thank you again to everyone who came out for this week's meeting. It was nice to see some old faces from last week's meeting, and new faces this week too! We are so incredibly happy that we had a such a great turnout this week, and we hope that we will continue to see familiar faces each week. So please, continue to come out to our meetings and stay tuned for what's coming up! For this week's meeting, our members played an ice breaker activity that helped everyone get to know each other a little bit more. It was super fun and everyone had some good laughs. It's fortunate to see such a large group of diverse individuals get along really well. At the end of the meeting we also went into more details about the duties of each current E-board position to get members to run. We collected a handful of names of those who wanted to run. Again the open E-board positions are: Conference Chair, Social Chair, Community Service Chair, and C.L.A.S.S. Representative. Elections will be happening on Tuesday, September 18th during our general meeting. On that day all you'll need to do is have a 1-2 minute speech about why you want to run for that particular position. We have a powerpoint about each position below, and if you plan to run, please type in your name under the position you want to run for. docs.google.com/presentation/d/1LbhpPWPAW2m4J945ofz-KDupcPbzn5MEjK9xDg8IX5s/edit#slide=id.p Also, we will be collecting membership dues from our meetings here on out, so please pay your dues. Each Semester: $20 Whole Year: $35 You can Venmo Catherine, our Treasurer, @Catherine-Smith-146 or pay in cash. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us through any of our social media pages, or on the "Contact" tab which is located at the top of the page. For next week's meeting we'll be making Rorschach t-shirts, so it's going to be a lot of fun! Have a great rest of the week! |
